Just Some Things:
Studies (Ironies) of Play

(2026- ___ )

Born out of my participation in the SVA group show No Small Things, "expressing the parts of an Art Practice that often go unseen, but are nevertheless paramount," these studies look to highlight the importance of play in one’s practice, a vital process to engage in reprieve from "Capital A" production and outcomes. Gestural, colorful, fun works of breath and ease in lieu of the standard foci of my contemporary practice. Not lost, too, is their role in a broad sense of irony: That even when trying to uncouple from the rigor and structure of a "serious" practice, eventually the artist finds the threads of structure and routine, habits of dialectic in simple and ordinary escapism, employed as yet another form of hyperfocused, intellectual rigor.
